Unsettling geometries
Destabilizing spacesImages via sarahoppenheimer.com

Passing between rooms, standing within, without, it is an adventure both kinetic and visual. It is the meticulously planned and executed work of visual artist Sarah Oppenheimer we’re talking about.
Established in New York, Oppenheimer falls into a category of artists whose aim is to disorient us and make us ponder and question the stability of the hidden experiential and perceptual dimensions of our constructed world through her work based on the destruction of white and empty rooms with murals incisions and, above all, the installation of mirrors.
Are therefore called into question our perceptions of walls and their openings, physical experience in general, giving the impression of being a phenomenal maze with windows overlooking an empty or infinite space.
Through manipulation of the calculated spaces, spatial continuity is interrupted by means of a formal element, the hole, the absence of solidity, fissure, opening, gap (among other synonyms!) and the resulting associated paradox. As empty as they are in essence, holes are never lacking for substance.
Literally working within the architecture, the artist reminds us that architecture and, therefore, today's space, can be explored under conditions of uncertainty and attention. And maybe make some heads turn. A truly work of "trompe-l'œil"!
