Close, Closer is the name of the 3rd edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale which proposes to explore the future role of contemporary architecture as a wide-ranging spatial practice.
From 12 September to 15 December 2013, a programme of exhibitions, debates, installations and events will explore architecture as an agency for the transformation and design of space. Architecture as a living, social, cultural and artistic force that manifests itself in a plurality of outputs that go far beyond traditional construction.
The approach to largely exclude the built form of architecture reflects the current socioeconomic climate. Faced with the constraints and limitations imposed by the ongoing crisis including devastating unemployment amongst architects, traditional modes of production give way to innovation and across-the-board collaboration in the search for meaningful alternatives.
In tandem with this curatorial approach, the Triennale proposes several initiatives that materialize its commitment to invest positively in the city of Lisbon, and are themselves pathways to participation. The goal is to gather a wide audience around the shifting landscape of the contemporary architectural practice, exploring the impact and potential of its agency in social, political and human space.
In the current scenario of contracting market economies and scarce resources, it’s proposed to approach architecture as a platform for generating solutions and strategies, fostering debate and participation in designing a shared space and future.
