Winner of the Lisbon Triennale Début Award

Jimenez Lai, founder and director of the Bureau Spectacular, studio in Chicago, was announced as the winner of the first edition of the Lisbon Triennale Début Award Millennium BCP for young architects.
The announcement took place at the Museum of Electricity, on the evening of Thursday, September 12, marking the first day of the week inaugural Close, Closer, the third Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
The Début Award distinguishes young architects and studios under 35 years who develop exceptional work, project practice singular and critical thinking, with the attribution of a cash prize of € 5,000.
Beatrice Galilee applauded the work of the jury that reduced over 180 nominations of exceptional quality from around the world to a shortlist of ten finalists whose "spectrum of work and originality, substance and quality are exemplary of a vibrant new generation of architects who are shape the discipline."

Jimenez Lai was chosen by the uniqueness and diversity of his work, an approach whose uncompromising and highly reflected formalism gives it an exploratory focus that, in the opinion of the jury, it will prove essential to the future of architecture.
