Offices and Feng Shui!

Prosperous business and good working environment
By Paula Margarido, Architect Feng Shui Consultant - 25/Jul/2014

The main purpose of Feng Shui is to study the energy of a space, whether residential or professional and its residents or employees and causing changes and transformations in order to achieve and maintain balance and harmony.

To think that Feng Shui is a women's issue and studies are mainly for private residences is not correct, as more and more companies are hiring Feng Shui consultants, most of these companies being led by men.

The main goals of CEOs and company directors are business prosperity, good working environment and that their employees are productive, proactive and motivated. In several projects I did recently, where changes in corporate spaces were common, both sought the remodeling to be accompanied by a study Feng Shui. Because they knew that one of the major benefits is that you can fit out and organize offices and thereby provide the preconditions for positive energy. With the right choices of furniture, materials and space layout we can encourage beneficial chi energy and thus increase company productivity.

Most people spend most of their lives in an office, so it is very important to have a good positive energy flow.

First of all, it is studied the 9 Star Ki for directors and various company employees. For a specialized Feng Shui consultant, the 9 Star Ki is an essential tool. For with a person’s date of birth, we determine an energy profile (if it is water, tree, fire, earth or metal) and also what are the most favorable and unfavorable orientations for each person. The ki of 9 stars is also used in the formation of teams and the selection of candidates in the interviews. Compatibility for every employee is also reviewed.

In a Feng Shui project, offices and open space work stations are particularly important and therefore a layout is designed with multiple secretaries, always with the concern that everyone is working towards the best orientation. It is always avoided that an employee works backwards the door and, if such a situation occurs, there is always the option to use a screen or file cabinet in order to create protection.

Reception and meeting rooms are also very important spaces because they can act as the face of a company. Inspiring images or from the company itself, the logo and its services placed in specific locations are studied in detail. Here Feng Shui is an essential tool because there are specific walls to foster fame and recognition energy.

Placing a picture with the company's team of employees, a table with the main goals and inspiring sentences are always great suggestions.

The various support equipment, files, copy area, kitchen and toilet facilities are also studied with particular care. There is also the concern of having a spacious and cozy place with proper tables for lunch and coffee breaks.

One of the most recommended solutions is to change wall colors and some office equipment. Colors with its characteristics are proposed in accordance with the functions of each office.

Introducing a variety of plants which clean the work environment is also advised. Some plants such as the Peace Lily, Snake Plant and the palm trees are excellent for interior environments. According to a study from NASA's Peace Lilies are the best air purifying interior plants.

1. Bamboo Palm | 2. Snake Plant | 3. Areca Palm | 4. Spider Plant | 5. Peace Lily | 6. Gerbera Daisy

The office organization is a subject matter, and it is not always easy. We always recommend making a selection, placing labels on various folders and filtering what can be archived.

We advise keeping the archived files in lower shelves and current subjects to eye level.

The secretary is the central element in any office, and ideally it should be placed so you can observe the room, the door and windows while sitting. It is essential to keep a tidy desk and avoid paperwork from accumulating. Placing a plant next to the computer is also beneficial because it reduces electromagnetic energy. If you spend many hours working on computers, I recommend using crystals to reduce electronic radiation, such as amethyst druzes.

There are some methods for organizing work desks and Feng Shui provides some advice and a layout, ie, the bagua is applied on the desk (see image below).

The center of the desk is often reserved for the computer - laptop or monitor. On the left place a natural plant (zone of prosperity), in front (zone of fame) place some business cards or a company flyer. On the right you can place some family photos - children / partner. On the right you can also put the phone.

Another advice is to create a weekly day to "clean up" and organize your computer: delete emails, organize and archive files. Archive papers and make regular backups of your computer, and never let papers and stuff accumulate.
