Secrets of Lisbon

The best hidden places to go out at night
By ArchReady - 14/Mar/2014

Now that Lisbon was dubbed the Coolest City in Europe, we have some questions:

Why?

What are Lisbon's saucy secrets?

Where are they hidden?

What makes them so unique?

Let us explore where one could find some of these hidden pearls, where are these unique and alternative places and how can one live them to the fullest!

Here's an easy to miss spot between the enchanting Principe Real gardens and the ups and downs of Bairro Alto's parties, right next to the São Pedro de Alcântara lookout and it's stunning panoramic view of the entire city.

An amazing custom-made view for the most colorful getaway filled with the fabrics and mannerisms of the shanti lifestyle and many different corners of small and cozy open-air porches within this restaurant-bar.

Whilst listening to the sweet tunes of the live music or the silence brought by the amazement hidden between the roof tops of Lisbon’s heart, LOSTIN's ambient and service deserves a first, second and third look!

Hidden away from everyone and all, at the top of a parking silo at Calçada do Combro, you'll be amazed to find the PARK, a lounge bar without peer, perfect to have a serene night out with some friends.

Between the garden and the people on the wooden deck of this porch, surrounded by the fascinating view, it's hard not to have a glass of wine and let the worries drift away at the sound of the good music.

In contrast to the colors and openness of the bars in lookouts and porches, for those with a keen interest in the middle ages, a taste for mead and a simple curiosity for a simpler time, you have TROBADORES.

With the people's cheer, the Celtic music, the iron swords and maybe even within the clay chalices you may find a place in your heart for the good old medieval warrior within.
And do not worry, the simpler times do not come with slower service but with a more caring one, that in and of itself is more than enough reason to enter these doors whenever you're passing by!

To whom searches for ostentation in the service and decoration with a hint of history and flare, why not stop by PENSÃO AMOR?

In the renovated Pink Street and the ocean of prancing fools strolling about, there are some discrete stairs that will take you to the start of a new and sensual story ready to happen...
Equipped with its own metal pole for those curious dances you know about, and a matching bookstore, there is much to see in this courteous bar.

Groovy music, groovy cocktails and all of Lisbon's nocturnal energies flowing about is only but the least that you will feel within these walls.

Before you leave the Pink Street of Cais do Sodré, don't look for a door or a staircase.
Right next to PENSÃO AMOR you'll find something special under a bridge, of all places...
Many have missed something essential for any music fan of any genre, essential for those who like to party, dance or just feel the beat.

We're talking about a place to jump and prance about to the sound of musicians from all across the world, MUSICBOX.

Multiple events, various effects and so much potential for aspiring and famous VJs
and DJs make so many nights memorable in this unforgettable club.

We recommend looking through the very busy calendar of artists residing or visiting the place until you find that right moment to lose yourself to the rhythm of the night!

Music fans have an impressive choice between all of the clubs, bars and concert places in Lisbon. But if there was only one place to listen in on every week, it'd have to be BACALHOEIRO.

Next to Casa dos Bicos, in a street like any other, a set of stairs takes us to the delights of the tasty food and the good vibes of the frequent members of this comforting and delicious hideout.
With a member's pass of this snack-filled concert bar we're well welcomed by the perfect acoustics and ambience of a world made for all music-lovers.

For those still not convinced by the previous choices for an alternative find, we leave here two final suggestions... but be warned! “Alternative” is the key-word here.

Behind Coliseu dos Recreios, in the Restauradores area, a hint of chaos was injected in a sublime and fun way, divided between two side-by-side hideouts:

O QUINTAL, an escape from the city;

O PRIMEIRO ANDAR, a strange web of events with no particular meaning, but all of the charm.

O QUINTAL, meaning The Backyard, is a very appropriate name since when drifting towards the very most top of the stairs you'll get lost in a farm-like garden like the ones you played in during your very own childhood in a land before the city.

Sit in a haystack in a quaint spot amongst the ducks and the chicken and reminisce of those child-like times with all the different songs and people...

The Backyard never closes for those who want to run away from the city.

And just in case O QUINTAL isn't the world to which you want to escape to, alternative music and its world decided to make themselves neighbors of itself next door in O PRIMEIRO ANDAR.

The charm of the living and dining rooms that compose it like a melody, right after the hidden hall filled with life and all its diversity, is born from the home-like feeling it emanates, so home-like you'd think you never left it.

Be it your own home or a friend's, that's how they treat you at O PRIMEIRO ANDAR, like a friend ready to listen to the different songs of the world, relaxed and found in another one of the incredible secrets of Lisbon.
