The Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura was awarded the Wolf Prize for Architecture last Sunday, May the 5th, at the Israeli Parliament in a ceremony attended by President Shimon Peres.
Following Álvaro Siza Vieira, who won the same prize in 2001, Eduardo Souto de Moura is the second Portuguese to receive this award which also honored personalities related to Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Agriculture.
Eduardo Souto de Moura was chosen by the jury for his contribution to “the progress in the field of Arts and Architecture”.
Wolf Foundation is a non-profit private organization created in 1976 by Ricardo Wolf, a philanthropist of German origin. Since 1978, the foundation has awarded prizes in the fields of Agriculture, Arts, Chemistry, Mathematics, Medicine and Physics in order to cherish scientists and artists regardless of their nationality, ethnic group, religion, gender or political choices. The Wolf Prize aims to enhance the contribution they’ve given in the interest of humanity and the peaceful relations between people.
