On November 3, 2013 was held the first edition of the International Prize for Architecture in Baku, Azerbaijan, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, with the support of the UIA - International Union of Architects.
The event attracted participants and visitors from various countries to attend the awards ceremony for which applied over 300 proposals from nearly 30 countries worldwide.
The jury was chaired by Michel Barmaki, Secretary General of the UIA, and comprising Elbay Qasim-zadeh, Chairman of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, Vassilis Sgoutis, past-President of the UIA, and Haider Ali, vice-President of the UIA.
Three prizes were awarded in each of the seven categories: Public buildings, Residential buildings, Interiors, Non-realised Projects, Landscape architecture, Rehabilitation and reconstruction and Publication in architecture.
In the category of Public buildings, the first prize was awarded to the Museum of Art and Archaeology of the Côa Valley, by the Portuguese architects Camilo Rebelo and Tiago Pimentel.

In the category of Residential buildings, the first prize was awarded to the project D HOUSE, by Lode Architecture, France.

In the category of Interiors, the first prize was awarded to the project Bye-By-Burnside, by Kiduck Kim, USA, an experimental interior renovation in Los Angeles, California, inspired by the effect of an earthquake.

In the category of Non-realized projects, were awarded three ex aequo second prizes to Zaur Qafarov, from Azerbaijan, for the Multimedia Center Project, Patrick Collier, from Morocco, for the Bioclimatic Houses, and Nikolay Lim, from Russia, for the Centre of maritime culture and popular music in Taiwan.
In the category of landscape architecture, the first prize was awarded to MultiPlan Arhitekti from Slovenia, for the project Rowing Centre in Bled.

In the category of rehabilitation and reconstruction, the first prize was awarded to Zaxariy Kurdiani, from Georgia, for the project reconstruction of the higher station of the funicular and Mtasminda restaurant in Tbilisi.
The jury decided to cancel all prizes for the category of Publication in architecture, awarding honourable mentions to five applicant publications: the book "Architecture of Abşeron" by Fatullayev-Fiqarov Shamil, Azerbaijan; the book "Azerbaijan Architecture: late XIX-early XXI" from Afandizadeh Rena, Azerbaijan; the magazine "Архитектура. Строительство. Дизайн"(Architecture. Construction. Design) by Voskresenski İqor, Russia; the book "Bakı memarlıq abidələrində fasad heykəltəraşlığı nümunələri" (Samples of façade sculpture in architectural monuments of Baku) by Aliyev Elchin, Azerbaijan; and the analytic - information magazine "Memar" (Architect) by Union of Architects of Azerbaijan.
