Harmonising the bedroom with Feng Shui
Tips for a cosy and peaceful atmosphere
The bedroom will always be one of the most important rooms in the house. The setting should always be cosy, inspiring love, tranquillity and harmony. A welcoming and light atmosphere in the room helps create a more peaceful and restful sleep.
People spend about six to eight hours, of the twenty-four hours of the day, lying in bed. For this reason the location and style of the room, beyond the placement of the bed, must ensure conditions for resting, relaxation and vitality.
The bed should is oriented towards one of the auspicious directions, which means that the head should point that way when we lay down.
The ideal bed should have space underneath to allow good air circulation.
A few tips to balance and harmonize bedroom settings by applying some Feng Shui techniques:
Bed layout: When lying down, a person should be able to see who enters the bedroom. The bed should be leaning against a wall and displayed diagonally opposite the bedroom door.
Lighting: It is necessary a variety of lights, especially if the bedroom is used for various purposes. A stronger light is recommended for activities such as studying or reading but some soft lights should also be used in addition.
Curtains: Fabrics help slow chi energy, but curtains should not always be closed, because it can lead to the risk of stagnating energy. During the day, you should open the curtains to allow some sunshine into the room.

Decoration: Select a few pictures with positive images or some photos of the couple. Children photos are not recommended in the couple’s bedroom.
Prefer soft colours for decoration, such as light yellow, green, lilac, blue, pink, white or pastels.
Opt for wooden beds and not metal. Do not choose beds with storage underneath, and if so, keep it only with clean and frequent use clothing.
Always choose bedside tables alike, lamps and carpets alike, in symbolic terms the set of bedside tables means the couple's relationship.

Locations: The ideal locations for a couple’s master bedroom are the Southwest, West and Northwest. West has a calmer chi energy, beneficial for a peaceful night's sleep.
Ambiance: Adequate ventilation, lighting and cleanliness are paramount. Remove the computer, mobile phones and TV sets from the bedroom, the electromagnetic radiation emitted by these devices is a concerning factor.
Keeping boxes filled with shoes or other items under the bed (less positive memories of the past) can create a non-advisable stagnant chi.

To Avoid:
Mirrors opposite or beside the bed. The bed should not be reflected in a mirror as it may cause insomnia or disturbed sleeping.
Bed layouts with your feet facing the door, as Chinese consider this as “the coffin position”.
Headboards beneath windows, as in this position chi energy is more active and can prevent a good night's sleep. We should also avoid leaning the headboard to a bathroom wall.
Sleeping under a beam, lowered ceiling or attic window.
Shelves over the bed and pointy corners towards the bed.
Stuff under the bed. Always keep empty space to let the chi flow.
Keeping and charging your mobile phone on the bedside table. It is better to wake up using battery alarm clocks (more favourable for health).
