How Portuguese live their homes?

Conference: "Life at Home in Portugal"
By ArchReady - 01/Dec/2014

Within the exhibition “Life at Home”, IKEA Portugal and MUDE– Museum of Design and Fashion, Francisco Capelo Collection promote a conference that addresses how Portuguese live their homes, which takes place on December 3rd, Wednesday, at 18.30, in the museum's auditorium. Admission is free.

The initiative, created under the 10th anniversary of the Swedish brand in Portugal, features the reflections of the sociologist Carlos Liz, the architect José Mateus, the interior designer Maria Barros and the IKEA communications director, Ana Teresa Fernandes. A debate intended to act as a contribution to design and architecture, moderated by Barbara Coutinho, director of MUDE.

Addressed to students and professionals, this is a starting point for the analysis of the main features that characterize "Life at Home" in Portugal and how it has evolved over the years.

Until December 7th you can figure out how Portuguese live their homes - their routines, dreams and challenges - through the exhibition "Life at Home - 10 years IKEA in Portugal", taking place at MUDE - Museum of Design and fashion, entrance is free.

Ten years ago, the Swedish home and decoration brand deepens its knowledge about the Portuguese domestic habits and routines - through research and studies, as well as hundreds of visits to Portuguese family homes - always with the purpose to be increasingly relevant, to have innovative products and continue to create a better everyday life for most people. It is this search and knowledge that now IKEA decides to share, and also lead the Portuguese to reflect on if they really know their homes.

Throughout the exhibition, it is possible to find out which are the most common buildings in the country, the average square meters of apartments, how does a typical home looks like, in which rooms do we spend more and less time and what we do there, which space at home most people wish to remodel, what has been changing in the home for the children, and review some IKEA iconic items that continue to make history in Portuguese homes.
