Prepare your home for the fall

7 Ideas for cosier spaces
By ArchReady - 15/Oct/2014

As the weather cools down, we spend more and more time indoors. The coldest days invite to stay at home in a cosy and comfortable ambience.

The fall season is the perfect time to update your home with new accessories in seasonal inspired tones. Prepare your home for the cold autumn with unique decorating ideas to create truly cosy spaces.

#1. Decorative throw pillows

Increase the feeling of comfort of sofas and chairs with fluffy pillows in different fabrics, shapes, sizes and patterns. Pillows are comfortable and affordable accessories with appealing colours or patterns that increase visual interest in a living room, helping to create warm and inviting spaces.

#2. Warm throw blankets

A soft throw blanket adds a subtle texture and the idea of warmth upon the most sober and elegant sofa. You can create harmonious combinations along with pillows or a more daring touch with bright colours or patterns in contrast with your sofa. If your blankets have been stored since last winter it’s better to wash them before using them again. You can organize a movie night at home with friends and family, as long as you have enough pillows and blankets to make your guests feel warm and comfortable.

#3. Layered Rugs

Layering rugs is a simple way to add some colour and texture to your house floor. You can combine different colours and styles to create more formal or relaxed environments, as long as you combine several elements. Besides the feeling of visual comfort, rugs and carpets contribute to warmth spaces and prevent the feet from coming into contact with the cold hard floor.

#4. Fireplace in shape

Anticipating cooler autumn evenings, you better check your fireplace and chimney conditions for its debut season, since it is likely that over the past six months it has accumulated dust and debris reducing its effectiveness. The ideal is to hire a professional cleaning and check security risks related to gas leaks or strange smells, before re-firing it and relaxing by the fireplace.

#5. New curtains

During summer it’s normal to use bamboo shutters, venetian blinds or light and airy screens or curtains over the windows. But in cold season, it is best to replace or add elements that offer better insulation and a cosier feeling. You can overlap different fabrics adding colour and texture over light summer curtains, combining shades with other decoration items.

#6. Lighted candles

In the fall, besides cooler weather the days grow shorter. But you can always take advantage of early nightfall by lighting up scented candles all over the house, creating a special atmosphere that will help you relax, especially after a long day at work.

#7. Cosy patio

And why not enjoying your outdoor area even when seasons change? You don’t need to have an outside fire pit; there are several options for portable heaters suitable for any space. Warm throw blankets are also a good choice, and very economical. With the right accessories, your balcony or patio can gather the perfect conditions for a very pleasant evening in the autumn or even winter.
