Trends for 2014

Decorating ideas and colors
By ArchReady - 26/Feb/2014

Decorating trends always amaze us proposing new uses for materials, unique patterns or unusual color combinations, featuring avant-garde environments or sometimes inspired by former times or exotic places.

Pantone has released for 2014 a color palette combining pastel and neutral shades with vibrant colors in a balanced and very creative way.

The color of the year is Radiant Orchid, an intense lilac and bright which will soon be coloring runways, objects and environments as fashion, design and architecture go hand in hand.

Another great new feature are pastel colors working as neutrals, such as Placid Blue, Violet Tulip or Hemlock, which can be used as a basis to highlight other colors, as in nature where they exist as background.

For anyone who wants to renovate their homes without spending a lot of money, these trends are inspiring, with different ideas and suggestions for small investments of time and money which may guarantee good results. Some remodeling could be as simple as changing the position of the furniture, swap the curtains, replacing rugs or add a few colorful cushions.

For those who prefer to play it safe, it is best to choose neutral shades, in a more classical, "nude" or minimal style, but if you want to go further, it is essential to keep an eye on trends. With a base of neutral colors you can be bold in details highlighting some colorful notes in large furniture or small objects.

By avoiding elaborate patterns and flashy colors in major pieces such as beds, sofas and dining tables, your room will stay updated for longer, and it could be renewed more easily.

Another good way to renovate a setting is to bet in new colors for the walls and ceilings. It's easy, is not very expensive and it is something that can be changed regularly, completely transforming a room and its ambiance.

Aside from the walls and ceilings, color can enter your home through the objects. Simply replace the sofa cushions or add a colorful side table. The idea is to bring some color notes in the right measure, in small objects like side tables or benches, or highlight some major pieces such as a sideboard or a bookshelf.
