In February 2012 a fire destroyed the Brazilian Comandante Ferraz Station in the Antarctic. In order to rebuild this station, which serves as a basis for environmental scientific research, in particular for the study of climate change, the Brazilian Navy launched a competition.
The winner was announced last April 15th: the Studio 41 from Curitiba.

Their proposal reinforces the aim of creating an innovative building, technologically advanced, ensuring the ideal conditions for Brazil to be at the forefront of scientific contribution along with the international community.

This way, the project assumes that the building will function as a shell providing protection and comfort, but will also be seen as a house, as the "house of Brazil in the Antarctic." The problematic of the impact on the environment was also a major concern for the architects of Studio 41 that hope to monitor the assembly of the modules at the end of this year.
