It was announced the team that will develop the architectural and engineering projects, as well as the exhibition space, for the LEGO museum to be built in Billund, Denmark.
Unsurprisingly the Danish studio BIG was chosen. Who better than BIG to do it? This studio had already thrilled the fans of the brand when using LEGO bricks as the concept for a multipurpose building in Copenhagen. They even used LEGO bricks to build the model that was showed at the Storefront for Art and Architecture exhibition.

The architect Bjarke Ingels reveals that this was one of the studio’s greatest wishes. They will now have the opportunity to demonstrate how this toy is so important for the development of creativity, reasoning and imagination, essential skills in a world where originality and innovation are fundamental elements in today’s society.

The choice of the company RAA (Ralph Appelbaum Associates) also not surprised. They feature a very interesting portfolio regarding the design and execution of exhibition spaces all over the world, which we highlight the Portuguese Language Museum in São Paulo, Brazil.
Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, LEGO’s owner, declares that this museum aims to provide plenty of active and fun experiences for the visitors, as well as, educational moments as it will show how children learn when playing with LEGO. With this center, the brand will also tell its story and relate it to its values.
The works will start in 2014 and it’s hoped to be open to the public two years later.
The museum will be called LEGO House, part of it will be entry free and it is predicted to have up to 250,000 visitors each year.
