Some of the most iconic works of the famous artist Banksy, world renowned for spreading irreverent works of art on the streets, have been recreated with LEGO bricks in the series "Bricksy: LEGO Banksy".
The author is the Canadian photographer Jeff Friesen explains on his website that the idea arose from the desire to photograph some scenes while playing with his daughter.
“I wanted to do a Banksy scene and ended up doing the Pulp Fiction scene and thought this was fun, making urban street scenes, and then decided to do a whole Banksy series. There was something funny about it; something unexpected." To Jeff Friesen, recreating the works of Banksy was a “fun way of spending time with my daughter”.
The photographer ended up taking this project “super serious”, sometimes dedicating an entire day for recreating some scenes. "My daughter plays beside me at the same time, so I spent a lot of time looking for Lego parts – which are technically hers.”
"Bricksy: LEGO Banksy" presents a series of some of the most famous ephemeral works of Banksy as "Balloon Girl" and " Like a Rat on a Wire". The combination between Banksy works and LEGO seems strangely natural, given the tendency of the mysterious artist for using symbols of pop culture and children in his works, with incredibly strong political messages in a very poetic way.
This series is part of a larger project, "The Brick Fantastic", where Friesen collaborates with his daughter, using her LEGO bricks. “I don't have as many Lego bricks as you'd think - they're all my daughter's", he said.
