The RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship, generously supported by Lord Foster and Foster + Partners, offers one travelling scholarship of £6,000 to a student of architecture to support international research on a topic and at locations of the student’s choosing.

A Cathedral built from cardboard was inaugurated last Sunday, August 11, in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Although it is a temporary solution, replacing the pre-existing 19^th century cathedral destroyed in the earthquake that struck this city in February 2011, this original structure was designed to last approximately 50 years and consists of nearly a hundred cardboard tubes covered by a polycarbonate structure, with a capacity for 700 people.

President Barack Obama sets the tone for this competition: "Now is the time to confront this challenge once and for all. Delay is no longer an option. Denial is no longer an acceptable response. The stakes are too high, the consequences, too serious. "

The edition of Habitar Portugal 09_11 is an initiative from the National Board of Ordem dos Arquitectos sponsored by Roca, that aims to provide a selection of works from Portuguese architects, built between 2009 and 2011 in the national territory or abroad.

The Habitar Portugal 09_11 is launched on 5 July, at 19h30, in Roca Lisbon Gallery, within the 13th Congress of Portuguese Architects.

A record-breaking 1.715 architects from 77 countries have competed to design the prestigious museum project, estimated to cost over € 130 million.

The six shortlisted are young, virtually unknown practices with less than seven years' experience.
